Today, students were introduced to their research projects by attending a lecture along with hands on activities. They were able to see what type of feedstock (from simple sugars to complex sugars) ferments best with yeast. They also made plastics from different bio sourced materials, and tested them to see which plastic made the best spoon handles. Later on, students were separated into groups to start their research on their projects. Lastly, the day ended with a map of their journey to OSU along with a team-building activity.
